The first ten years of my professional career was spent as a Designer and Creative Director for an independent publisher. My love of books and design were a match made in heaven. I embraced the opportunity to redefine what educational books should look and feel like. Art directing everything from trade show signage, to advertising, to board books gave me a wide range of design experience. Presently, I've had my own design & illustration business four years and counting. I truly enjoy creating artwork that fully engages the audience. I research as much as possible, striving to see through their eyes. Then, pop! show them a twist on the familiar, something fresh and new. My process starts with a collage of ideas, followed with an exploration into uncharted visual territory, and finally, a result that can stand the test of time. • Contact marieka@comcast.net • Art Party Blog http://mariekaheinlen.blogspot.com/ • Links http://www.mnartists.org/marieka_heinlen www.jacketflap.com/profile.asp?member=marieka www.illustrationmundo.com www.illustrationfriday.com • References http://www.linkedin.com/profile?viewProfile=&key=4684902&locale=en_US&trk=tab_pro "It is an art of opposites, an intricate dance between art and commerce that is created by people who find freedom in solving visual riddles and in filling dictated space with inventiveness, creativity and added value." —Excerpt from book 3, Use of Illustration, from the AIGA Design Business and Ethics |
